A young player strikes at the mini-goal under Coach Luka's pressure at dusk, the evaluation in action at The Soccer Lab, Carlsbad

    One player. One plan.

    Everybody who’s told you your player is good has a reason to say it.

    A straight evaluation of where they actually stand, from a coach who doesn’t gain anything by telling you what you want to hear.

    Being the best player on your team tells you almost nothing.

    • They might be genuinely ahead.
    • The team might just be weak.

    From the sideline those two look identical, and everyone who could tell you the difference has a reason to be kind.

    So: are they good, and what would make them better?

    // What you get

    // 01

    Seven categories, scored.

    Ball control, passing, weak foot, finishing, one-v-ones, awareness, decision making. Written down, the evening of the session.

    // 02

    One priority, named.

    The single thing that would move them the most from where they are now, and the areas supporting it, because a player told to fix everything fixes nothing.

    // 03

    An honest answer.

    Including “they’re in good shape and here’s the next thing”, which is what we tell most of the players in this position, because it’s usually true.

    The first session is free and you get the written evaluation either way, whether or not you ever book another one.

    The one thing that impressed me was Luka’s follow up email with the analysis of my son’s skills and areas of opportunities.

    Then that is what the evaluation says. It is the most common answer for players in this position, and you still get the seven scores and the next thing to work on in writing.

    A Soccer Lab coach. Today that is Coach Luka, and every coach here is trained and certified by a coach instructor.

    It is written down, it is scored, and it is specific to your player rather than to the team. A club coach is building a team and sees your player inside that job.

    No. The evaluation is the same either way: it tells you where they are, whatever that turns out to be.

    We tell you what we would work on and how long it would take. If that is not something you want to do, you keep the written evaluation and there is nothing to pay.

    Forty-five minutes on a field, and that evening you stop guessing.
