// The Development Framework
The same four-dimension model used by elite youth academies worldwide — adapted for private and small-group training.
1–5 Development Scale
- 1 Foundational — Executes the skill only in static, unopposed settings. Not yet reliable without pressure. Below typical execution for age group.
- 2 Developing — Executes in controlled situations without pressure. Breaks down under defender pressure or game speed. At typical starting point for age group.
- 3 Competent — Reliable execution in most training situations and moderate pressure. At typical level for age group.
- 4 Advanced — Consistent execution under pressure and at game speed. Above typical execution for age group.
- 5 Exceptional — Game-speed execution with quality, consistently, under the highest pressure. Top-tier for age group.
Scores are based on the coach's professional observation and are calibrated to the athlete's specific stage of development.
Technical Profile
- Ball Control: First touch, surface work, and close control under pressure.
- Passing: Accuracy, weight, and distribution — short and long, dominant and weak foot.
- Weak Foot: Non-dominant foot competency across all skill areas.
- Finishing: Shot mechanics, placement, and composure in front of goal.
- 1v1 Duels: Offensive and defensive 1-on-1 situations with and against pressure.
Soccer IQ
- Awareness: Scanning frequency, reading the game, and body orientation when receiving.
- Decision-Making: Quality and speed of choice under pressure and compound demands.
Positioning is evaluated only in Group Training — it requires team context to assess fairly.
Physical
Physical: Speed, agility, endurance, and change of direction. Noted qualitatively in Snapshots — not scored.
Cognitive Load
A measure of how mentally demanding a session was. We progressively increase complexity — more opposition, more decisions, more speed — to push players toward higher levels of execution.
Isolated skill work. No decision-making pressure. No opposition. Player focused entirely on technique.
Skill + one added demand (speed, opposition, time constraint, or scanning + decision).
Skill + compound demands (game-speed execution, active opposition, decision under pressure, scanning + receiving + choosing in one sequence).
Identity Badges
Visual verifications of elite character traits. These are not participation awards — they are earned through visible behavior.
Awarded for effort and determination. Maximum effort every session, staying focused, and pushing through fatigue.
Awarded for mental toughness. Bounces back from mistakes quickly using the 4 R's: React, Relax, Reflect, Renew.
Awarded for the drive to win. Bringing intensity, refusing to lose, and competing with passion in every drill.
Awarded for loud, consistent communication. Clear voice to call for the ball, direct play, and organize teammates.
Awarded for character. Applies corrections quickly with no ego about feedback. An attitude that makes an athlete a joy to coach.
Awarded for character. Respect for the coach, teammates, opponents, and the work.
How the Framework Appears in Each Snapshot
Baseline scores on all 5 Technical categories and 2 Soccer IQ categories. Qualitative Physical observation. No Identity Badges yet (earned across 8 sessions).
No scoring. Qualitative session record with Cognitive Load noted. Identity Badges earned in the session are displayed.
Current scores compared to baseline in a pentagon overlay. Progress paragraph per category. All Identity Badges earned across the Cycle with session counts.
